Health Surveillance


In accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and several other regulations concerning known workplace hazards, employers are legally obliged to provide health surveillance programmes for any employee exposed to certain levels of noise or vibration, solvents, fumes, dusts, biological agents and other substances hazardous to health.


By regularly monitoring employees’ health to identify early signs of work-related injury from exposure to known hazards, preventative measures can be put in place to avoid any long term or permanent harm.  We provide health risk assessments covering everything from hearing (audiometric) tests to Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome. These health assessments can help employers identify whether health and safety testing is required and what kind of assessment is required to reduce or control the exposure.


Creating a health risk assessment for each job role will help to identify whether an employee requires health surveillance.  Please contact Alert Health for further discussion and assistance.  We will advise you on how best to assess your employees’ working environment and provide you with a tailored health surveillance programme to suit your needs.

For your convenience, Alert Health clinicians can attend your premises to conduct employee health assessments, minimising any disruption to your employees’ working day. We can also arranged for your employees to attend our Inverness clinic, which may be more suitable for a smaller number of employees. Like many employers, you may decide to incorporate health surveillance assessments into annual routine medical checks.


Following every employee’s health assessment, we will notify you of any required action on your part to manage the next step in their health surveillance program.  Often this is notification of when to book their next nurse or doctor review appointment. Should assessment indicate  an employer needs to make changes to working practices or a working environment, we will write to you to advise on the changes required.
