Medical Assessments

The OEUK (Offshore Energy UK) certificate is mandatory for working offshore in UK and Norwegian waters. A satisfactory certificate will allow you to work for 2 years. For the Netherlands, we can record your OEUK medical in a new or existing Dutch log book.

This was formerly known as an OGUK (Oil and Gas UK) offshore medical.

The ERT medical is specifically for offshore ERTs. The medical section of a satisfactory certificate will last for 2 years, with the additional requirement of an annual fitness assessment.

This assessment is required every 4 years for the purpose of offshore survival course renewal and can be booked in with an OEUK medical. Failing the assessment means that the underwater breathing training element of the survival course is moved from shallow water to dry land for that individual.

Drivers of HGVs, lorries and buses are required to meet the Group 2 medical standards set out by the DVLA. Our doctors complete the DVLA’s D4 form and the individual sends the form to the DVLA for them to make their decision.

Companies want to ensure staff driving on company business are fit to do so, thereby minimising the risk of accidents. A driving medical identify health conditions, like diabetes, epilepsy, heart issues, or vision problems. This paper-based questionnaire review asks individuals to respond to questions about their health. Our nurse will review the responses and, if satisfactory, issue an employment certificate. Alternatively, they may advise further clinical reviews so we can provide recommendations on any adjustments or restrictions the individual might need when starting their role.

RUK’s medical guidelines for the renewables industry are similar to those issued by Offshore Energy UK (OEUK) for offshore, but also require a satisfactory Chester Step Test result. We recommend this assessment for individuals working in offshore renewables.

For a small fee, an OEUK certificate can also be issued upon request. A 2-year certificate is the maximum time given.

An ML5 certificate proves that you are medically fit to be operating in the working environment of a fishing vessel, and will be valid for a maximum of five years. For more information, find out more about ML5 medicals in Inverness.

We offer two types of working at heights medicals – a nurse-led assessment for those working at limited heights, e.g. scaffolders, and a doctor-led assessment for those working at greater heights, e.g. climbing towers or masts. Certification lasts 2 years.

Some embassies have specific medical requirements to enter their country. An individual may be asked to have an assessment included with many medical and laboratory tests performed, with the results recorded on a medical form and a fitness recommendation from our doctor

We require your specific visa paperwork and any supporting medical standards to ensure we can perform all tests, and will build a medical which matches your requirement.

Where individuals are exposed to high levels of risk in a role (e.g. in a remote location abroad), a company’s medical adviser might ask them to have medical and/or laboratory tests carried out to be confident they have good health. When we are provided with company paperwork and medical criteria, we will build medical assessments to match your requirements.

For commercial diving, divers must have a valid certificate of fitness to dive. Passing this annual assessment requires a high degree of physical fitness and the assessment includes a Chester Step Test. Please note we are not currently able to perform these assessments, and hope to resume these early 2026

Anyone working with licensed asbestos is required to have a 2-yearly medical assessment by an HSE appointed doctor. A certificate is passed to the employer and the individual for their health records.

Working with non-licensed asbestos requires a medical every 3 years.

Workers exposed to a high risk of radiation at work (“classified workers”) will have their radiation exposure measured by their company’s dosimetry service. When provided with the individual’s dosage and sickness absence record, we will conduct an annual medical assessment to assess the employee’s health and exposure levels. The health record is kept by the company.

Health surveillance for individuals working with lead can include medical and/or blood testing. The level of lead in the blood then determines the frequency of further monitoring.

In the interest of workplace safety, employers are encouraged to medically assess anyone operating a lift truck/plant machinery or driving at work premises. Certification renewal follows the DVLA’s Group 2 licence renewals.

It is advised that a medical examination be performed on employees who work in confined spaces to ensure they are medically fit to enter/exit and work within such spaces – essential in the event of any emergency

These medicals are often required within the construction industry and are intended to ensure safety critical workers are fit for the tasks required.
